Meet Mitch

What attracted you to work at HT?

Hearing and reading so much about Housing Trust on social media and through people that I know, it was amazing to see the difference that Housing Trust was making to the community. Hearing about the impact each person at Housing Trust has on an individual’s life and the greater community was inspiring and something I knew I had to do.

How did you find your first day?

Overwhelming and welcoming. As with starting all jobs, there was nerves starting the night before all the way until walking through the door the first time. I was greeted by some very lovely people and they made me feel very welcome. There were a lot of names to try and remember and so many people eager to say hello and find out more about me. It was a great first day and I went home knowing this was the place to be.

Have you felt supported?

Very supported. Although during my first few weeks there have been quite a few people on leave, there was always someone to ask my questions to and everyone knew the answers. It has been great being able to have so much support in learning so much over my first few weeks.

Tell us a little about your previous work experience?

I worked in community allied health care for an NDIS company prior to starting my career with The Housing Trust. I would go throughout the community in Western Sydney and Sydney and participate in allied health therapy such as Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech Pathology. It taught me so much about what it meant to serve the community and the impact people can have on others’ lives. It was a great time working there and I have been able to bring a lot of customer service knowledge from there to The Housing Trust.

What is one of your best days?

I was recently given the opportunity to attend the Healthy Illawarra Men’s lunch at WIN Stadium. The morning started with being able to resolve a difficult situation and learn something new with our procedures before getting the phone call asking if I wanted to attend the lunch. It was an amazing opportunity provided by The Housing Trust that I never would have done. I learnt a lot about some co-workers and was able to meet some amazing people before finishing up in the office for our Christmas Party.
