Reconciliation Week 2023

A message from Housing Trust CEO Michele Adair on Reconciliation Week 2023.

“Reconciliation Week 2023 feels like the beginning of something really special, and long overdue.

I’ve been reflecting on what it might be like to be a First Nations person who isn’t officially recognised in my own country. To be more unhealthy and likely to die much younger than my work colleagues and neighbours. For my extended family to have more struggles, more often, simply because of their heritage.

I am not responsible for past wrongs but I am responsible for what I do today, and in the future. Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians. It’s the least we can do.”
