Housing Trust is pleased to announce the sale of a portion of its land in central Dapto to Warrigal,
paving the way for two long-standing community organisations to work side by side in delivering affordable housing, community living and aged care solutions.
This positive step forward will enable Housing Trust and Warrigal to address two critical areas of need in our community – affordable homes and aged care. For Warrigal, the site presents an opportunity to expand future pathways that support older people to remain connected to family, community and the places they know well.
The Byamee Street site’s central location, close to shops, schools, and public transport will support plans for retirement living and aged care accommodation, alongside affordable homes, creating a diverse and connected neighbourhood. The approach supports people to stay independent for longer, with flexible pathways as their needs change over time.
Both organisations share a strong alignment in purpose and values and are committed to delivering the best possible outcomes for the community. They emphasise that diverse communities create stronger outcomes including greater connection, safety, and wellbeing for residents.
Amanda Winks CEO of Housing Trust said “We know our region faces a significant shortage of both aged care and affordable housing options. Mixed-use developments combining retirement living, aged care, and affordable homes are recommended as a practical solution.
“Together, we can create a vibrant, supportive community that meets real local needs and strengthens wellbeing for everyone. In so many ways, this is more than a transaction, it’s a positive step toward creating homes and spaces where people can truly thrive. We’re delighted to welcome Warrigal as our neighbour and look forward to even greater collaboration to bring forward our shared vision and purpose.”
Warrigal CEO Jenni Hutchins agreed, stating:
“Warrigal and Housing Trust have stood beside this community for many years, and together we’re creating new opportunities for older people to stay connected to the places and people they love. Working side by side allows us to shape homes and neighbourhoods where older people can thrive, with comfort, dignity and the right supports as their needs change.”
The land sale enables both organisations to unlock the full potential of this site through thoughtful design and community-focused delivery, helping meet the growing need for affordable housing, retirement living and aged care.
