Cadetship Program 2022

Earn while you learn

For the second year in a row, Housing Trust are proud to be taking part in Community Industry Housing Association (CHIA) NSW Cadetship Program. This exciting program is an opportunity for successful cadets to undertake paid employment and training in application/allocation services, tenancy, property, and asset maintenance management with us as a Community Housing Provider whilst studying a CHC42221 Certificate IV in Housing for a period of 12-months.  Places are limited, with only 25 cadetships offered throughout NSW each year until 2024.

Housing Trust was fortunate enough to have two cadets start the program, including Roxanne who commenced with us in May 2021. The vision of affordable, safe and secure housing was a no-brainer for Roxanne, stating that she liked what Housing Trust stands for and immediately jumped at the chance to apply.

Through the program Roxanne has learnt about the history of social housing and acquired valuable skills including how to assist people, with a focus on those who have complex needs. “I have learnt Community housing is so much more than providing people somewhere to live. It is about providing decent homes, creating security and community”.

“The stand out for me has been learning about Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander cultural safety”, says Roxanne.

Roxanne has been with Housing Trust for 8 months now and was awarded a permanent role as part of Housing Trust Reception Team in December 2021. Roxanne flourishes in her work and has made a wonderful addition to the team as recognised in her taking out Housing Trust’s most recent Awesome Employee Awards.

Roxanne’s advises anyone considering to apply for the program to “give it a go”, stating that “there is so much support to assist in you succeeding.”
