Tim Bauer

Tim Bauer is the original nosey guy, and photography gave him the excuse he greatly desired, to open every door and take a good look inside.

Tim began his career at the Sydney Morning Herald Newspaper as a Cadet Press Photographer in 1978 where he worked in the darkroom , helping all the press photographers and in the picture gram room sending and receiving images from AP , UPI and other global press services. One of the highlights was the going with the mobile darkroom truck to important events where films were developed at speed then a print made then it was “gramed” back to SMH in Jones St Broadway.

At just 21yrs old he left Australia wide eyed and enthusiastic to pursue his dreams abroad after winning an award in the Rothmans International Press Awards. It was a photo of a man standing on the back of an elephant sweeping the dust and straw from his back.

Tim’s success in London introduced him to the world of celebrities and the music industry as well as the hardcore human feature story projects that he loves. From the handlebar moustache club old men portraits to gypsy camps in lay bys outside of London, Viennese mods on Vespas , London’s thieves and lovers.

In London in the 1980’s Tim was asked to travel with the world’s most famous bands of the times like Depeche Mode, Grace Jones, Duran Duran and Simple Minds etc documenting their performances and lives on the road, offering an unique insight into the bands pop culture. To contrast these popular icons he also shot many older people from the last of cockney gangsters and Pearly Kings and Queens, to Dylan Thomas’s wife Caitlin to Richard Attenbourgh as well flying with Garry Numan in his WW2 Harvard fighter trainer plane and so many more amazing people and places.

Tim’s career has spanned over three decades in the editorial portrait world. His collection of celebrities portraits include Charlton Heston, Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash, Audrey Hepburn, Lillian Gish, Andy Warhol, Russell Crowe, Kate Blanchett, Kylie Minogue, Vin Diesel, Jerry Hall, Seven Prime Ministers, Victor Chang, Charles Dickens grand daughter Monica to Daryl Hannah, Robbie Williams, John Travolta and many many more.

From Morocco, Italy, Turkey, Egypt, Europe, America, Japan, United Kingdom, China and on to South Africa Tim’s career has been amazing meeting such diverse people from Maharishis, Nepalese Midget Clowns, Pop stars, Actors, Artists, World leaders, amazing authors and even the odd Zulu Warrior.

Tim has enjoyed success in many areas of commercial photography from corporate, photojournalism, editorial portrait and advertising. He is always thinking photography and currently he is working on a series of personal projects and hopefully one day a massive retrospective exhibition that is coming really..!

His other love in his life besides photography is his Family, Wife Bibbi and daughter Josephine their dog Ruby. Tim does portraits weekly at Blacktown pound of the rescue dogs for social media and to help with the adoption of the dogs.
Tim lives in Sydney’s Inner West and has a fantastic daylight Studio with a real working darkroom where he is always experimenting or playing about with his cameras and lights at all times of the day.
